"Araby"
Carol Kreeger Davidson 2003
10’ x 15’ x 12’7" Aluminum, Bronze, Acrylic Araby was inspired by the artist’s reflections on Islamic art and culture. Created in 2005, it responds to her experience of living in Sabah, Malaysia in the late 1960s as well as to increasing religious and cultural animosities based on today’s world conflicts. "Araby" says Kreeger Davidson "is my way of remembering the teachings of the Qu’ran. [It is] a reminder that Islam gave rise to a great political, intellectual, and artistic civilization, capable of great heights in architecture, philosophy, literature, and mathematics."
